I am proud to announce the first ECOBREED International Summer School on Advanced Genotyping which will take place on-line from 21st to 25th June 2021. The language of the Summer School will be English.
The course is organized in the framework of the Department of Excellence project “Sustainability of Agrarian and Forestry systems in the Mediterranean environment in a context of global change (global change)” SAFE-Med and the ECOBREED project sponsored by European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under grant agreement No 771367. ECOBREED “Increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of organic crop breeding” aims to: (i) to improve the availability of seed and varieties suitable for organic and low- input production; (ii) identify traits and combinations of traits suited to organic/low-input production environments including high nutrient use efficiency and weed competitiveness/allelopathy; and (iii) increase breeding activities for organic and low-input crop production.
The training course will present an overview on the most common advanced techniques on genotyping and how to translate this information into breeding practices with attention to organic production. The five days intensive course will offer an opportunity not only to acquire basic and advanced information but also to train on practical aspects and laboratory/field activities since its program consists of lectures and practical sessions that will be run on lab-streaming. The course will use a combination of lectures and demonstrations with a heavy emphasis on hands-on data analysis, which requires the active participation of students. Training material will be available for participants.
Topics include: the basis of genotyping, markers, MAS, SNP, drift, natural selection, population structure, ideotypes for organic farming systems, association mapping, GWAS, NGS, mapping-by-sequencing, HRM, Tilling, CRISP-Cas9 transformation, Epi-breeding, Mass Spectrometry, Biostatistics. The course will create an exciting forum dedicated to cover theory and practice of state-of-the-art plant genotyping.
The training course is limited to 50 participants. Preferences will be given on the base of registration date and to participants coming from countries with limited organic agriculture.
Registration should be done sending an email to pagnotta.lab@gmail.com by June 10th, with submission of the completed Information sheet, Information consent and Registration forms.
